Bucks can pretty much breed their whole lives, although the older they get the smaller litters they will create, and they're more susceptible to heat sterility too (meaning their sperm count decreases in the summer heat). Does generally breed until they're 4 years old, although I have a doe who is 5 1/2 and still having big healthy litters.

The buck can breed until he drops dead of old age. The female should only be breed a couple of times per year for about 4 years, then she should be retired. This would be for a show rabbit. Meat pen animals are bred 3 - 4 times a year, but they are feed supper foods and taken very good care of.

It depends on the quality of feed and care that you give your rabbits. I would not hesitate to keep a breeding buck for 4-5 yrs if fed properly. The does depend on how aggressive your breeding schedule is. I breed my does every 6 weeks and wean at 4 weeks. If fed the right food a doe can handle this for about 2-3 yrs.

wager I must be the single to assert this - yet PLEASE do not breed your rabbits. although the clarification, rabbits are the third-maximum euthanized pets interior the country with the aid of fact of outdoor breeders like this. maximum of them will probably finally end up dumped in shelters and that is quite not to blame to deliver them into the worldwide.
