finger food ideas for a 9 month old?

My daughter is almost 9 months old and has a preference for finger foods (only at breakfast and Lunch, for dinner she prefers a puree type meal). But I'm running out of ideas, currently I will give her:

Toast with homemade fruit puree spread

Scrambled egg

Steamed veg

French toast

Today she had a sandwich with cream cheese filling, but I need some healthier alternatives

My struggle is to come up with ideas to get more fruit veg in her diet, she doesn't eat fresh fruit when I offer it to her but will eat fruit purees (except banana).

Any good finger food ideas?

Canned veggies (peas, green beans, corn) are great at this age because they're so soft. We buy the no salt added kind. My 3- and 5-year-olds still love canned green beans, but aren't as fond of fresh or frozen ones. You can also give her a stalk of cooked broccoli so that she can hold it and nibble at the florets. Beans of all kinds are another good finger food option to try. Oh, and if you buy the mixed veggies (frozen or canned), they include diced carrots, which are easy to pick up and eat at this age.

Keep offering the fresh fruit -- blueberries, grapes cut into 4ths, melon, pear, banana, etc. She may eventually decide that she likes some of them. I found apple to be hard at this age since my kids didn't have enough teeth to chew it well, but I'd sometimes let them hold a piece of apple and suck on it (while watching closely to make sure they didn't bite off a huge piece). Canned fruit (the kind in fruit juice, not syrup) is another great option, but makes for messy finger food.

Assuming you're not vegetarian, meats can also make great finger foods. Just cut them into strands or cubes that she can easily pick up. Small pieces of ground beef/turkey work well as finger foods, too.

Pasta is a great finger food, too, especially if you use macaroni or something else that's small. You can try spaghetti, but be prepared for the mess. Some friends of ours used to have "naked spaghetti night" because they always stripped baby down to a diaper before serving it. :-)

I know you're still offering purees with dinner, but I'd also keep trying to give her some of the same food that you're eating -- meat, veggies, pasta, rice, bread, etc. It gets her used to eating with the family, and it will be easier to phase out the baby foods as she continues to grow.

    Hey :)

My 9month old daughter likes finger foods also. She is basically on table food every meal, unless we are out in which case i take a container of homme made food. (i still make it for convenience meals n she does enjoy it)

Things you could try would be rice crackers. and you could try using avocado as a spread as another fruit in her diet. even mashed banana on them. Cheese or other jam spreads.

    Grated cheese/ carrot/ apple

Sultanas. They are something i have very recently tried her with and she just loved them. Healthy also.

Breadsticks,. Like rusk sticks but you could make them your self and melt a bit of cheese or add a spread to it for flavour.

    Cut up bits of beetroot.

Peas. Beans. (steamed usually keeps more flavour then boiled in my opinion)

    Boiled up plain pasta

You could try fruit yoghurts? for babies. Or plain baby yoghurts and add some small diced fruit pieces?

My daughter really likes apricot chicken. I usually steam up some chicken (any way u want to cook it) and boil some dried apricot (you could use fresh but none were available at my times of making it) and then i just gently mash it together. Not so it is fully puree as she can chew but enough to make sure it is small enough for her spoon. I havent done it for a while but i would pprobably just cut it with a knife nowdays.

Have you tried canned fruits?? they are sitting in natural juices and they taste very nice (im sure you know) they are often soft, maybe she would like them as opposed to fresh fruit (just a suggestion)

i suggest u download this book. it had some really great recipes/ ideas/ tips. i have a copy (i live in australia and emailed heinz asking for a copy) and it was useful :)
