Have you got to go to college first and then you have to be approved for a Law-study?

To enter law school in the USA you will first require a bachelor's degree, then take the LSAT and then apply for entry to law school.

    Hope this helps!

You must have a 4-year baccalaureate degree from a really good university, plus high scores on the LSAT (law school admissions test), plus additional qualifications to be admitted to law school. Law school is 3 years.

The US market is glutted with attorneys. And law schools are still glutted with applications! A few super-star law school grads from the very best law schools will get excellent offers $100k-250k) on graduation. A slightly larger percentage will get offers in the high 5-figures. The majority of new grads have a hard time finding so much a clerkship, and many are applying for paralegal jobs these days for lack of jobs.

A friend's son graduated in May from a top NY law school. The top 10 grads (out of @450-500) got good offers, inlcuding my friend's son - so I know what he's getting. The vast majority are still job hunting 6 months after graduation - that's at least 18 months of jobhunting!

Why is this under "study abroad?" If you are not a US citizen or legal permanent resident, do not attempt to study US law. Does you no good getting jobs in your country, and you cannot work in US - or even take the bar exam. You must return to your own country immediately upon completion or termination of studies.

To attend law school in the US, you need a bachelor's degree in any subject and an LSAT score. The grades and LSAT score you will need depend largely on the school you want to attend.

Disregard most of what ibu guru said. His son's friend didn't attend a top NY law school. The only top NY law schools are Columbia, NYU, and Cornell, and they were placing a minimum of 30% (more for NYU and Columbia) into biglaw. If this friend's son needed to be in the top ten *students*, then the school wasn't even as high ranked as Fordham. I'm guessing Cardozo, NYLS, something in that range.

I'm pointing this out because it's imperative that you go to an actual top law school so that you don't have to place in the top ten students in your entire class. That's incredibly difficult to do. This kid got lucky by doing so well, but it's a tremendous risk to take. It's like investing in an unstable company. Maybe their product will take off and you'll become a millionaire, but most likely they'll flat on their faces and you'll lose all your money.

Also, nobody gets offered $250k entry level (unless you're working for daddy's firm). The going rate for biglaw is $145k-160k.
