I will be traveling to Kenya for a week and was wondering if US Dollars can be used as normal currency in the country?

The main currency is Kenyan Shillings and since the exchange rate is so cheap you are better of paying in shillings. But to answer your question YES USD is the next widely used currency used in Kenya. All retailers will gladly accept it.

Yes, US dollars can be used in kenya but not everywhere, it would be a lot better if you changed the dollers into shillings.

You can use dollars to pay for some things like the hotel or in restaurants, taxis and even some curio shops, but it would be convenient if you did change some cash into shillings

some shops accept US $ but you will be overcharged.The best thing to do is to exchange them at the Forex bureau.Please note that the bureau's at the airport have unfavourable rates it will be best to do the exchange in town bureau's

Not at supermarkets. Can I use Euros at American supermarkets? It would be weird if I couldn't.
