I am looking for a global economic comparison of regions below the country level such as provinces, states, prefectures, laender. How do I find a comparison of the top 8 regions within the top 8 countries (G8x8)? Interested in data such as GDP, employment, real growth, wages etc.

There are at least two comparable data bases, IMF, and the World Bank. If you need more in details, you should go to website of specific country concerned. But you might face the difficulties because they usually report in local language and currency. Every country has the central bank's website.
