does anyone know the results of a copperhead snake bite?
a friend was bitten by a 3 ft long copperhead last night,it was a wet bite but they let him leave the hospital after treating him but he has had to return to the hospital tonight because he was not breathing properly...in reading about them they are less venomous than the rattlesnakes and water moccasins but more painful...thank you

The results can vary from nothing all the way up to an amputation. Generally, they are not a major problem but medical attention is still a good idea. If the hospital released him, I wouldn't be worried. Usually the breathing problems are not really from the snake bite itself, but more from the shock of being bitten. And I'm not sure what you read, but the bites from rattlers and cottonmouths (aka water moccasins) are much more painful.

The copperhead is one of the least venomous snakes in the u.s.a. If you were to get bit by any venomous snake in the u.s i would choose a copperhead. Mainly because their bite isn't very fatal to people. That is not to say that there has not been any recorded deaths. But the deaths from this snake are very rare.
