What characteristics are most desirable in a good wife?

Girls want

1. Affection: The first thing she can't do without

2. Conversation: She needs him to talk to her

3. Honesty & Openness: She needs to trust him totally

4. Financial Support: She needs enough money to live comfortably

5. Family Commitment: She needs him to be a good father

Guys want

1. Sexual Fulfillment: The first thing he can't do without

2. Recreational Companionship: He needs her to play with him

3. Attractiveness: He needs a good-looking wife

4. Domestic Support: He needs peace and quiet

5. Admiration: He needs her to be proud of him

I am a male, 69 years old, married twice. First marriage lasted 15 years. Second just passed the 28th anniversary.

I am going to list my characteristics beginning with the one I think is most important. The others will be in descending order:

1. Fidelity. I will be faithful and I expect her to be. (My first marriage ended because my wife was unfaithful, not once but many times and with no end in sight. I divorced her.)

2. Honesty. I don't need to know every detail about her, but I don't want any lies or major secrets. I agree to treat her in just the same way.

3. Intelligence. Both of my wives have been highly intelligent. I am too, by the way.

4. Consideration. No inordinate amount of selfishness on the part of either of us.

5. Attractiveness. Doesn't have to be a raving beauty, but should be fairly easy to look at.

6. Sex. Yep. I like it. I'd like her to like it too.

There are other characteristics that might be important to others but not necessarily to me. A good wife doesn't have to bear children for me. I've already fathered two sons and I don't expect to father any more. Also, my family has to like her.

I like to cook. If she cooks I'd like her to be a good cook, too.

I find it kind of disturbing when women ask this question. Women who ask this question often try to mold themselves into what they think is a good wife. OTOH, I've never known a man to ask what makes a good husband. IMO, if you're a good person (good listener, empathetic, good character, reasonably calm), and mature (can support yourself and handle money, take good care of yourself/living space possessions), then you'll make a good spouse.

Someone considerate who puts the people they love first. This goes both ways.
