What if there were no religion in the world?
How do you think it would affect you personally and how do you think it would affect society in general? Please give answers based on your own mind and do not quote scripture from the Bible.

After spending 50+ years trying to figure out which religion to adopt after being disheartened with the Catholics, I decided to try the Noone Religion (No ONE Religion) but I felt as if a friend had died so I thought of getting back but then finally jumped, made the plunge, and turned and ran from ALL man-made religions. But I did not desert the Creator and began praying directly. Many years ago I had challenged God to reveal Himself to me and in a whirlwind of visual aides I was ASSURED that God does indeed exist. To top it off He called me by my nickname, known to few, and then everything went back to normal. Individual hallucination? Possible. I have worked harder to disprove His existence than I did to prove it b/c I like to be fair with everything and if I could equally disprove God then I would profess that, but I cannot.
Without religion there would be one less nail in the coffin of humanity. Next we would have to eliminate Banks, and then Government. Perhaps the Aquarian Age will provide relief and give us the ability to rule ourselves and go to a barter system. Who knows! That's next I'm sure.
I feel that the next step will be ONE World Religion and then when people realize the uselessness they will worship on their own, and in their own way. Religion was basically carved by vanity was it not? Since one person wanted to brag to others that HIS religion was better than THEIR religion.
Without Religion there would be bliss, fewer wars and arguments, less fighting, more unity.

There's a big difference between having no religion and having no belief in a creator. Either there is a creator or there isn't. The problem with religious diversity is that so many people have so many different interpretations of what The Creator requires of us. If we all had the same understanding and interpretations, then there would be no religion; just a belief in God and in spirituality. If we all abided by the same laws, rules, guidelines, then there would be nothing to argue about, no contention, no wars.
But that's not to say that people wouldn't find something to fight over anyway. We all know christians who fight with christians, muslims who fight with muslims, and atheists who fight with atheists, etc. And, let's face it, people, for the most part, are arguing and fighting over things that have nothing to do with religion. I certainly can't recall the last time I argued with someone over religion, but I can very easily recall the last time I argued with someone. It was last night, with my partner, over something so trivial I can't even remember how it started!
We have no way of knowing what the world would be like if a belief in The Creator had never existed. We can't just assume that people would make good choices if there was no religion to argue over. It is also statistically evident that people with a strong, active spiritual belief tend to commit fewer crimes. Of course, there are people with no religious belief at all who are guided by their own humanity and behave in an exemplary manner. Also, there will always be the nutters who use religion as an excuse to do what they like. And there are those who profess to hear "the voice of God" telling them to carry out heinous acts that no right-minded, right-thinking person would condone, whether or not they have a belief in a creator.
On a personal level, I think that the world, without a diversity of religion would be a better place. But a world without any kind of spiritual guidance or belief in a creator would be infinitely worse. I don't think that Man, as a race, has developed enough to be able to be self-guiding. And I believe that The Creator's influence, whether we believe or not, is felt by the whole of Mankind. It's our choice to act upon it or not.

I am going to quote Scripture from the Bible whether you like it or not. :P It's not fair if some people can use their atheism-based books to defend their beliefs but we can't use our book.
I think it would affect me in a major way. First of all, I would be doomed. Since there was no God, there would be no point in living my life for Him, which would mean that there was no point in living. There would be hundreds of wars, big and small, since people had nothing good to live for. There would be no good thoughts, good ideas, or anything that could be considered "good". I think it would be a very depressing, hopeless, joyless gray world, since God is the only One who can give us true peace, happiness, fulfillment and salvation in our lives.
"It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man." Psalm 118:8 :D
Now, watch how I get a hundred thumbs down because I dared to quote the Bible. XD

Which religions are you talking about? Since you mention the Bible, I think you mean to say "What if there was no Christianity/Jesus in the world?" Actually there is a book called "What If Jesus Had Never Been Born" by D. James Kennedy that you may want to review.
Let's see. Historically how was the world before Jesus: slavery, human sacrifices, crucifixion, stoning, homosexuality, cannibalism, etc. How is the world isolated from Christianity or straying from Jesus? Pretty much the same or moving toward that direction. Do you know that the Dayak in Indonesia ate each other until the Dutch prohibited them?
So what's unique about Christianity? “Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets” (Matt 22:37-40, NKJV). I called this the SUPREME Golden Rule because it is based on transformation of the heart, agape-love. We do good because our hearts desire it instead of from fear of the laws or others. Agape love builds up and proactive. “Anyone who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins” (James 4:17), violating our own heart.
The best other ideologies before the Jews are “Do …” (Golden rule like Confucius) and “Do not do …” (Negative Golden rule like Buddhism). Other ideologies try to emulate but never succeed because they do not exemplify the teachings as Jesus and His prophets did. The Bible contains Supreme Golden Rule as well as Golden Rule and Negative Golden Rule.
What are you thankful for that the “world” has given you? Modern medicine, hospitals, modern science, the Red Cross’es from where the Red Crescent’s ensue, mother Teresa’s, modern democracy, YMCA’s, YWCA’s, Salvation Armies, and reverend Harvard universities? Those gifts come fro the Followers of Christ whom Jesus indwells and lives through. The greatest scientists such as Pascal, Newton, Pasteur, and the Father of Genetics Mendel were all men of faith, believing in Jesus and concluding that God created us. See http://www.answersingenesis.org/Home/Area/bios/def... for the list of many current and past scientists. It is God’s vision to have world peace and goodwill in people (Luke 2:14), and His followers are making it universal for all people on earth.
What if there was no Christianity? In human recent history, the old atheist/agnostic China, Russia, Khmer Rouge and Nazi were examples, torturing and killing hundreds of millions of people. Christians are still being persecuted and killed worldwide in Islamic and atheist countries. Let's build world peace instead under the Prince of Peace, Jesus.

We're almost there. THe end of days story says that the beast will defeat even the saints in the end game. No religion means that it will be ok to rape children, ok for the rich to trample the poor, ok to do any perverted thing that comes to mind. Science man is already justifying being gay as a physecal condition instead of acknowledging that it is a behavioral choice. It won't affect me. I will still be waiting with my eyes upward on the day that our Lord returns, but our society is obviously going doen the toilet as we speak

i imagine no matter if faith existed, human beings will nonetheless have their own opinion about particular issues, so there ought to nonetheless be conflict. perhaps no longer religious wars, yet different conflicts or huge disagreements. on the different hand, faith supplies human beings some thing to count on. It supplies some human beings a reason to be "reliable," and possibly supply them a purpose for residing in a better civilized way.

There would be fewer wars and very little terrorism. Would not eliminate all the wars over power, money and land though.
We wouldn't have the beautiful art, literature and architecture that has been inspired by various religions either.

>>>>>It wouldn't effect me whatsoever. It would certainly effect all the people that are putting their trust in pagan gods. The one True God Jesus Christ is not, I repeat, Is not a religion. Jesus warned the religious leaders they were full of dead mens bones and called them hypocrites. As I said, people need to understand Christianity, It is not a religion !

I would still be friends with Mikey and Thomas, I would still have my first 2 gfs. My brother wouldn't have ran away just because I'm atheistic buddhist. My sister wouldn't have tried to kill me.

Our planet would be very, very, very crowded by now and many more of us would be starving; religion is a generally evil thing, but it HAS served very well to control population growth by making folks kill each other for wearing the wrong kind of hat or praying to the wrong imaginary entity...
