Why do people think that Wicca is about spells?

It's all about baskets, isn't it?

People who I have spoken to in the past who have stated that they were Wiccan often threaten spells when you ask the above question. And, just like any good religion, they have all gone on to contradict themselves. They generally state that they can cast love spells. They then go on to say that they do not force others to do anything against their will. The two statements are not mutually compatible. If you make someone fall in love it must be against their will. I'm sure that there is more to the wiccan belief than just spell casting, like tree hugging etc but in my experience, Wiccans describe themselves as "White witches" which sends a clear message.

Of course, I may have just been unfortunate to have met nutters that describe themselves as Wiccan but due to the fact that there are very few that describe themselves as such, I have not had the necessity to research this belief as much as I have others. Thus I accept that my view of such people may be wrong and I am still open minded and open to education on the subject.

Online I try to learn and read about Wicca and it would seem there is a large portion of Wiccan people that cast circles and practice charms and spells and what not.

People think Wicca is about spells because often in films and T.V shows (like Charmed), the Wiccan religion is associated with Witches who are in turn, associated with spells.

I don't think it's just about spells, I think it's also about getting back to nature and having this spiritual contact with it.

I knowed about Wicca when I saw the "Book of shadows : Blair witch project 2" there's a Wiccan girl in it, and spells r noticed but also I've done some researches. that's all I know, the nature thing.

I know better now, but the earliest influence of mine was SWEEP, I think. Had me believing the Olde Religion and all the rest of that garbage as well.

Most wiccans ask about spells on Y!A.

I'm not sure where I got this belief from, but I've always thought that Wiccans were particular about using correct grammar. I just kinda figured that proper spelling was also important to them.

I saw this documentary called Hocus Pocus and the wiccans in it could cast spells and there were also some talking cats and a zombie for some reason.

It really opened my eyes to how the world really works.
