If you want to manage your settings, you need to use the "Manage Updates" link to the right of this widget. That will take you to your Yahoo! Pulse (formerly known as profiles) and you can manage it in there. If you turn it off there, you will still see the widget but as mentioned before, you will only broadcast content if the box is checked.
