Is The Defense of Japan the US A's job today ?
Is it time to stop providing the defense for Japan ?
Japan, 3rd largest economy, spends .8% of GDP (gross domestic product) on defense (2006), External debt of $2.132 Trillion (2009), Rated at 151 in military spending in the world.....
United States, 2nd largest economy, spends 4.06 GDP on defense (2005), External dept of $13.450 Trillion (2009), Rated at 25th in military spending in the world.....
It looks to me that Japan can start spending and defending themselves and that the U.S. needs to back off and start taking better care of itself !
Agree or disagree ?

Yes. Our bases in Okinawa are there for a reason. My ex-husband explained it to me like this when he was stationed at Kadena. He said Kadena's purpose is to basically babysit North Korea and make sure they behave themselves. Military presense in that part of the world is very important.

Well, for one thing, the troops in Japan are all training troops, training for us.
Secondly, we aren't 25th in military expenditures. We are 25th as a percentage of GDP. We spend more on military then anyone in the world.
Finally, when was the last time Japan was invaded?

China would find an armed Japan an intolerable proposition. China was badly brutalized by the Japanese during WWII. It's the primary reason the US acts as a bodyguard for the the island nation, rather than a weapons supplier.

Japan can defend themselves, why would they rely on US to defend them and defend them from whom?
