Windows Vista Basic - can anyone out there advise?

Question

I am currently running Windows Vista Basic on my PC. This was my first laptop and I didn't know at the time I bought the PC how basic 'Basic' is. I am now wanting to upgrade my PC, as I can't afford a new one, however I don't think I'm able to just install Windows 7 as the Vista Basic will not allow me to do this.

Can anyone advise how I can go about doing this (honestly) at the lowest cost? I am tearing my hair out with this software. It's awful and I don't know how they got away with releasing it.

The important thing is DO A BACKUP first.
Make sure you copy all of your documents and files ( pictures, photos, email files, browser bookmark, etc ) into a safe place ( can be your flash drive )

After you're sure you have all your data backed up, do a fresh install of Windows 7

You can search around the internet on how to install Windows 7 ( from articles to youtube videos )
If you're not sure to do this yourself, better get a tech to do it for you.

I would back up all your files to an external drive or CD/ DVD then purchase a copy of oem Windows 7 Home Premium from ebuyer.  If your laptop is a 64bit processor then get the 64Bit version.  I have a 3 n a half year old Acer which I have Windows 7 on and it runs like a dream. and even though Acer said it wasnt supported... it was with a combination of XP and vista drivers.  Good Luck
