Google redirecting to other websites?

About 75% of the time I click on a google link (or Yahoo! search, or AIM search or Bing, etc) it sends me to a completely different website. It also pops up random websites while I'm browsing the internet. Anyone know how to fix this?

    1) Yep not cool eh? You have a spyware or Virus redirect that is using your IP to hide in your Hosts! For Google Chrome. Here is the extension download link, it doesn't work at first but leave it will come afterward.

    https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx?re...

Here you can find more explanations:

    https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/dfjfhd...

2)a) To block the website go to extensions>Wrench icon>Extensions>Options>Login In (you don't need a password for the first use!)>Type in the website you want to block>Click on Block.

    b) Now to change the password on the same page>Under Change access password: Current password: leave blank>New password: type in a long and complex password with letters and numbers>Confirm new Password: retype it> (Write down on a paper or whatever your password for future reference, learn it by heart)>Click on Change.

    3) To block definitely the website from your computer go to Notepad:

Start>All Programs>Accessories>Notepad>File on menu bar>Open and browse for "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\ETC\" folder>Click on Hosts file>Open>Modify the file by adding "127.0.0.1.www.blocksite.com" to the bottom of the file on 2 separate lines>Save the file>Exit Notepad.

    4) I advice to full scan in Safe Mode with both your anti virus+anti spyware. You can get both at http://www.filehippo.com/ I advice you Avira or Avast and MBAM and AdAware. MBAM is a trial of 30 days. But you can use it to remove any Spyware. Anti spyware Malwarebytes Anti-malware, download on a clean PC with Firefox/Google Chrome to a memory stick/CD.

Follow blindly the guidelines of http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remo... http://vmsar.wordpress.com/2010/02/12/malwarebytes...

it is similar to the spyware or rogue that you have.

Sounds like you are infected with the same rootkit virus I was. Most anti-spyware tools dont detect these. You should run ComboFix:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-us...

That fixed my redirect problem. Also, you might want to update Java, as I believe I got the problem in the first place due to a vulnerability in an older version of Java. To do this open Control Panel and (in classic view) open the Java Control Panel. On the Update tab click the "Update Now" button.

You can do a "restore point" operation & see if it will put your settings to the time where it was working properly. Click on windows icon On the search bar type: restore Choose the option where it says 'restore to an earlier point' Should be pretty self explanatory from there. Hope that helps. (Most of the time it will delete any virus or spyware also but a lot of people don't know that & spend unnecessary amount of money by taking it to the shop, they will do the same thing I mentioned above & charge you for it)
