How worried are you about the Mexican drug war spilling into the US?
I live in Albuquerque about 200 miles north of the border and lately there is a lot of talk about what if???
We do have good cause to worry, over 18,000 murders to date in their country... don't want that happening in my front yard ya know... I know their very worried over in Texas... now they have hits out on their police officers and cartel members following school children...
Well I know we worry here but was wondering if other parts of the country have the same worries...

Here in Missouri I am very worried. I have family (most of my siblings) living in either El Paso or Dallas. All of us are getting close to or at retirement age. Back a year or two (maybe more than that... I'm not sure) we (Missouri) had an influx of mexicans into our labor market. Not to say that was a bad thing, you understand, I hope most of them are legal, honest citizens but who knows. It could turn ugly if some of them were illegal and have ties to the cartel's. After all it sounds like they really want to extend their influence into the U.S. I'm not sure if it would stop at the border states. But I think it wouldn't. We gotta do something to keep them out.

Well, I live in Georgia and that kind of stuff is not really an issue here, with the exception of Atlanta where I know for a fact that the Mexican drug cartels operate. All I can say is that I would never live in South Texas without being well armed lol. I think Mexico really needs to get a grip on that stuff, because alot of the "law enforcement" down there is actually corrupt and working for the drug racket. I like Mexicans, but I really HATE the Mexican drug cartels that are killing people on both sides of the border.

On a limited scale, it has spilled over even as far north as here in northern nevada. We have become a 'trade route' of sorts for drug dealers heading north and looking to avoid the more heavily patrolled california roads. Believe it or not, there are only about half dozen Highway Patrol officers to patrol an area roughly the size of the state of Iowa on any given weeknight. In many counties, the full staff of a sheriff department may consist of the sheriff, three or four full time deputies and a few reserve deputies. Granted, many of these entire counties have a population of a few thousand people, but it leaves a lot of open road space. I personally have travelled state highways during the day and gone 80 miles before passing another car. It makes for a too convienent route to get to large cities in Idaho, Oregon and Northern Cali.
In the major cities of Reno, Carson City and Fallon, there is a serious drug problem (by way of Mexican Gangs and others). Much of this is due to the close proximity to Sacramento and other major california cities (about a 2 hour drive west) and gangs looking to stake a wider claim and income. The state capital of carson city is by all means a small town, yet there is more gang activity (largely Mexican) there than in Reno, a city 30 mins away and several times larger in population.
So yes, with these considerations, it is only a matter of time until the somewhat underground gang scene explodes. Much of our gang activiy is from the younger crowd trying to be tough and not being too sure how to do it, but with pressure and gudience from established leaders there is inevitably going to be better organization and more violence.

It seems to have already spilled into Arizona, Texas & California at our border towns. I wonder why our "Drug Czar" , ICE head or Homeland Security Secretary has not done anything that is more apparent. I had read in the LA Times that the Mexican Army has not been effective. The Mexican Navy like our SEALs get the job done but is a much smaller organization. It is a genuine concern with daily killings in border cities of elected officials & law enforcement by drug street soldiers during the past 2 yrs.

Spilled over years ago how the hell else are so many criminal organizations getting the product to be sold you can't make it here but if it continues at this pace there will be war and screw Iraq looks like America will be fighting on the home front in a war because this war is escalating it is not the same as it was it is not all about drugs any more it is against the government, think about it a full take down the government take Mexico then Mexico will be taken for their needs wouldn't you want that
You know better yet think of the Opium war in China it is just history repeating itself

I'm very worried about it. I live in the midwest area and I"ve seen cartel activity up here, too. I don't know if the average person is aware of it, but the cartels aren't just into peddling drugs and murdering people. They also commit other crimes to support the cartel (e.g. human trafficking, auto and identity thefts, money laundering, etc). Please note that I'm doing my share to stop this. I've been reporting organized crime to the authorities!

I'm not worried, I'm just waiting for the US Army would come in and kick some *** just like we did with poncho villa way back when. Then we could show the mexicans how to handle there own problems and not make it an international affair.
Don't let this happen again:

Me, not even slightly I live in the UK. I would have thought America would be OK though, tough law enforcement etc, and the Mexicans have no reason to take it to America because America would actually do something.

I'm really not too concerned that it may happen here. Our law enforcement cannot even compare to the ones in mexico. If anything happens I'm sure the US government will have it under control.
