Have you noticed that people have started saying "myself" and "yourself" instead of "me" and "you"?

It's as if they think it's unprofessional or uncouth to say "Submit your application form to me" or "I was just calling you to confirm" so they say instead: "Submit your application form to myself" and "I was just calling yourself to confirm".

They act as if they're being grammatically correct and sophisticated - but it's just totally wrong so they sound like a prat.

Have you noticed this bizarre trend?

A lot of people also permanently say "...and I" even when "...and me" is perfectly appropriate - but at least that's an understandable mistake!

Yes I have and it drives me crazy.

I notice it most when a question is asked, say in a news report...

"So you were outside the cinema when this happened?" "Yes, my friend and myself saw everything."

Why doesn't the person say, "Yes, my friend and I saw everything."

I am older and thought this was the new way of teaching grammar????

I was just calling yourself to confirm, is so poor. Even i myself find it amusing to read.

got the catch ? u can call yourself. you cannot call others with self. Self is made to denote only self. So the first statement could be correct "Submit your application form to myself" when u rephrase it as, " I shall collect the form myself or submit the form myself" . But the second one is wrong.

also, " Raj and I went to the cinema ". You cannot add ' me ' here. There is a thing different in this form of sentences alone. Otherwise, those pro people are trying to fool around those they think are poor in English.

    You are correct !

It is not grammatically correct! And it drives me (not myself) crazy. I am an educator, and many people in my building (admin and others) speak this way. When I hear "Please give this to ____ or myself by Friday" I want to scream...I cannot do anything to yourself. Only you can do something to or for yourself!!! You should know better!

Me and you could easily be used in this context, it does sound stupid using myself, yourself here.

The "I was just calling yourself to confirm" Is the most pathetic.

They could so easily use "You" here, I think you are correct; they are trying to sound "Pro" but really are trying too had and are sounding stupid.
