spiritually speaking: for those who claim to have a personal relationship to jesus, or even communicate with..?

Also! i will talk about communicating with God or any messenger of God ( not only the prophet Jesus peace upon him ) .

Communicating with god can include the prayers ...when one do prayers he must feel that he is communicate with god talk to him at the same time it is communicating with the prophets because there are greetings to whole prophets in the prayers... so it is sort communicating ..

but about what are you talking, I agree that some people are claim and lie in this issues but some of them are true and real. Let me tell you how : It is mentioned in Quran 13 :28 ( the hearts of believers are tranquilized with mentioning of the name of God ( or remembrance of God))... So when someone work on purification of his soul by removing bad thoughts and his outer deeds by removing bad behaviors he will feel that his soul and his heart become very transparent, he will find new dimension in his self which has never discovered before... but he must be believer with good faith and practicing the remembrance of god ( dhikrullah). At this high case of purity sometimes he can see the prophets in his dreams or something else unconventional which can support his faith... the prophet Muhammad SAW said ( when you trust God the pure trust , the God endows you similar to his endows to the birds ,it goes with empty stomachs and return at the end of day with full stomachs)... ...this is not impossible acts on the god abilities... and the prophet Muhammad SAW said that when some one see me in the dream it must be true dream because Satan cannot come with the image of the prophet Muhammad SAW....this what i know about this issue ...i hope it can be helpful.

What if the old testament was right and what if Jesus wasn't the son of God or wasn't actually real. That would mean that many people are worshipping a false idol instead of God !

This is where "gods" come into it. Just aspects of the universe in symbols.

My spirit is connected with God, Jesus lives in me, there's no confusion about who is talking to me. When something is from Satan it will contradict God's word and His will.

No, because Jesus Saves, not satan. Jesus gives us Peace, Satan gives us turmoil.
