Well, technically, it COULD be possible... until you remember that the Earth is probably going to go on for about 5 billion more years (scientifically), so the chances of an earthquake even EXISTING in California is:
Well, 5 billion years times roughly 30 tectonic plates on the Earth, times the area of the Pacific plate and the area of the North American plate, that's about a 1:291,451,770,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 chance of it happening.
EDIT: Plus, that's the chance of an earthquake even HAPPENING. There's an even smaller chance of California breaking off into the ocean.

even although California is heavily populated, this is nevertheless no longer as densely populated as Haiti. additionally, the structures in California are designed to stand up to earthquakes mutually as those in Haiti are literally equipped on suitable of one yet another. Even worse, this is an somewhat undesirable us of a that became hit by using no fewer than 4 hurricanes in 2008 which led to countless harm and killed a lot of human beings.

They say California has yet to have its next big one. There was a bad one ages ago. Avoid large concrete shopping centres just to be on the safe side, then you can get out quickly, and remember that there are rumbles and shakes before a building falls down, so you will have time to run outside.

California is moving north, or NNW, to be more precise, and will detach from the continent of North America. in a few million years. But it is not going to fall anywhere, and you and I are nor going to be around when it does detach. But the Big One will come, maybe in your lifetime.

most earthquake deaths are caused by buildings collapsing so that's all you really have to worry about
