Add more alkaline foods into your diet and reduce acidic foods. Eggplant, Broccoli, Cabbages, lettuce, Mushrooms, onions, peas, pepper bells, parsley, radish.

Do a web search for more information on alkaline foods.

Increase your water intake to help flush acidic elements from the body.

Apple cider vinegar has long been recommended for gout. The usual dose is about 1 tablespoon in a cup of water, repeating as often as you can. But I have to tell you that it has never worked for me. I have given in to official medicine, which offers some really effective drugs. Indomethicin may come from a factory, but it is a godsend as far as I'm concerned. So, try the apple cider vinegar (some people recommend eating cherries first, then following with the vinegar). If it works for you, great. If no, get a prescription. Good luck, and I hope this helps.

Drink plenty of nonalcoholic fluids, especially water. Nonalcoholic fluids help remove uric acid from the body. Alcohol, on the other hand, can raise the levels of uric acid in your blood.

    ·

Drinking ordinary black tea can help ward off an attack of gout, possibly due to flavones it contains, which inhibit xanthine oxidase, an enzyme that is involved in the synthesis of uric acid.

    ·

Avoid foods that are high in purines such as anchovies, asparagus, beef kidneys, brains, dried beans and peas, game meats, gravy, herring, liver, mackerel, mushrooms, sardines, scallops and sweetbreads.

    ·

Other foods to avoid include refined carbohydrates such as white flour; oats; yeasty foods such as beer and baked goods and vegetables like cauliflower and spinach.

During an acute attack, try to stay off your feet as much as possible and keep the affected joint elevated. This actually will not be a big problem as an acute attack generally makes the affected joint so tender that it cannot even bear the load of a leaf!

    ·

If you can stand it, apply an icepack for 20 minutes or so. The cold will dull the pain and bring down the swelling. Wrap the ice in a cloth to protect the skin. Do this thrice a day.
