Getting Call of Duty 2 to work properly on Windows 7?

COD2 loads, but for some reason when the games start all I get is sound and the icons (the crosshairs, compass etc). My PC is a WIN7 ultimate, with 256MB dedicated graphics and 3GB RAM. Any advice?

Update:

I've tried patching and compatibility mode, but neither solution has worked.
