Do I require a visa for Taiwan?
I will be on a stopover in Taipeh for just 2 hours and do not intend to leave the airport, just run for my connecting flight. Do I require a visa, like e.g. in Canada or the US, when I am just on a stopover without intending to enter the country?

No you dont. You are only in the airport and its only for a flight connection. If everybody required a visa just to do that, then the airlines probably will find another route because its too much work.
You are fine this way.

No, Singaporean and Malaysian do not need visa to enter Taiwan for a maximum stay for 30 days. Normal requirements like passport must have a minimum validity of 6 months prior to arrival etc. still applies.

U.S. passport holders will be allowed to enter Taiwan without a visa for up to thirty days (no extensions allowed) if they have a passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry into Taiwan and have a confirmed return or onward air ticket. Travelers must have already met any additional visa requirements for the next destination, if applicable.(1)
From the State Department web site, this is the technical version of, "you're only connecting, it's not a problem." I have yet to encounter and country that requires a 2 hour visa.
