If manny pacquiao.....?

Its really amazing that Boxing has hit such an all time low that people think that a former featherweight can not move on to KO a solid welterweight. Would you have the same suspicion if Manny Pacquiao's name was Roberto Duran? Why on earth do people think that Pacquiao's achievements are so special as if what he has done hasn't been duplicated and in fact exceded by some others in the past? The welterweights in the 80s were far superior to the welterweights of today you know. And Joshua Clottey isn't even the best of today (although he's one of the best surely).

That said, you don't necessarily have to be physically strong to knock someone down, as Mayweather has shown. Hit him enough times, he'll go down. And Clottey's movement is not exactly in league with Pacquiao. He is more of a tank that's very solidly built. His defense consists of quick timing, long reach, and an efficient cover. Pacquiao, I hope will try a hit and run. He really doesn't need to prove how tough he is by letting Clottey hit him just like he allowed Cotto.

I wouldn't base it on that. The punches that do the most damage are the ones that you don't see coming. Do you think Hatton would have been knocked out if he saw that punch coming and he had a chance to brace himself? Anyone can knock anybody out, it just has to be a pinpoint shot that they don't see coming. Put a blindfold on Klitschko, and let Malignaggi punch him as hard as he can and see if he's not staggered. Even when Pac seriously hurt Cotto in the fourth round, that was a shot he didnt' see coming. But once he put on a defensive shell, he was never seriously hurt in the second half of the fight. He was overwhelmed, especially in the ninth round, but never seriously hurt.

My opinion, Clottey could very well get knocked out, but it would be more of an accumulation of punches, a la David Diaz or ODLH. I don't see him seriously hurt, but I see Pacquiao outlcassing him to the point where his corner throws in the towel becauses they wouldn't see a point in continuing the fight.
