Do the Americans have a chance at Olympic hockey gold?
I've been looking at their roster, trying to figure out what I think of their team. Great goaltending with Ryan Miller, which always gives a team a chance, but what about the rest? I'm curious what others think of their chances in Vancouver against strong teams (on paper) like Russia and Canada.

No, they won't even see a medal.

You said it yourself great goaltending always gives teams a chance. If Miller can stand on his head against Canada and/or Russia you never know. There's a few solid second tier teams with an outside chance Finland, Sweden, USA, etc.

Anything can happen, especially in tournaments where it's a about a single game, as opposed to a series. Like (nearly) everyone else, I agree that the front-runners are Canada and Russia, but the truth is all the top teams like Team USA, Sweden etc. all have a chance if they get hot.

The 2014 Olympics are in Russia. by way of fact the Olympics have been an open opposition (1995) there have been 4 iciness competitions. Canada has 2 golds, the Czech Republic has a million gold and a bronze. the U. S. has 2 silvers, Russia has a silver and a bronze, Finland has a silver and a couple of bronze, and Sweden has one gold. Canada and the U. S. have been given their medals in the North American competitions. My guess for Sochi is Russia > Gold, Sweden > Silver, Canada > Bronze.

Americans would be hardpressed to pick up a Bronze medal. Right now it looks on paper like Canada, Russia, and Sweden are the three power houses and then you never know how the Czechs or Fins will perform.

Anything can happen expecially if the semis when it's one and done.
I wouldn't bet on it. I predict Canada wins Gold, Russia silver and the Swedes beat the americans for the Bronze. US lacks the firepower to keep up w/the Canadians and Russians and their goaltending's just as good (Brodeur, Nabakov and Lundqvist)
Look at Team USA's lines:
Parise- Stastny- Langunbrunner
Ryan- Pavelski- Kane
Malone- Kesler- Brown
Callahan- Drury- Kessell

Miller would have to be lights out. They're a solid team, but don't have as many stars as Canada and Russia.

Yes they have a chance. But you have to look at Canada and Russia as the ones to beat.

Don't think so, there's not that many great players on their team and Miller can't win the gold for them just by himself. I guess we'll see come February :)

Yes, and no.
Obviously, the odds are not in their favor. But, anything can happen in sports. That's why they're so fun to watch.
