caribbean rainforest?
I am planning a cruise this fall and would like to spend time in a rainforest. What is a good port to consider? I don't mind hiking- it does not have to be easy. I want to explore the nature.

I was absolutely awed by the rain forest in Dominica. Dominica has only been open to cruise ships for the last few years. It's a very poor island. It does not have large hotels. The island is completely unspoiled by tourists. Nothing is cultivated. It is lush and beautiful. The people are lovely.

In my experience of over 20 Caribbean islands, the most splendid rainforest is on the tiny, cone shaped volcanic island of Saba. It has an elfin forest, rain forest and cloud forest on the same hike. Absolutely beautiful. It is an eco-island, however, and large cruises don't go there, which is just fine because it remains pristine and unspoiled. You can do a day trip easily from Sint Maarten but I would suggest at least an overnight stay.
El Yunque is also beautiful and worth visiting but I'm not sure if it qualifies as a rainforest.

El Yunque in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is beautiful especially with the waterfalls, you can even swim in them too!
