What are the various viewpoints about this from different religions?
I know Catholics and a lot of other Christians are against.. what about Jews and Muslims?

Muslims are also against contraception but history shows it was practiced and there is no harm in it... yes, killing a fetus is strictly forbidden since it amounts to murder.

The Bible doesn't mention it except for a Gen 38:9 case of coitus interruptus bringing upon the man sudden death from the Lord because Onan was wicked and refused to do the right thing for his equally wicked deceased brother. Wicked or not, the firstborn dead brother has rights to continuing his name. It's improper to extend that Bible report to condemn many modern prohibitions of contraception.
