How/why do the religious use their beliefs as a basis for opposing gay marriages?
When you boil marriage down to it's essence, it is nothing more than a legal contract between 2 individual humans and their state government. I can acknowledge that most choose some sort of religious based ceremony to enact this contract. However, this signing ceremony is not legally required to contain any sort of religious content.
Since, the 1st amendment of the United States has the separation of church and state clause in it, how can governments not allow anyone to enter into this legal contract without being discriminatory? How do those of religious beliefs think they can use their religious beliefs as a legal reason to oppose gay marriages?

Late Term Abortion, something many on the left agree with and Bloomberg just signed a bill allowing. At this stage the fetus is viable, could survive on its own, can feel pain, is is ready to be born. They tear of each limb one by one, first the legs then the arms, then they break the babies back, then they drill a hole in the babies head to remove the brains so the head will collapse. I DON'T NEED A BOOK TO TELL ME THIS IS BARBARIC AND 100% WRONG. The extreme right crazies think abortion is murder the day after conception. The extreme left crazies think the before mentioned practice is fine. (Which is more cruel, barbaric, and evil?) I would rather side with the extreme right than the extreme left, however I am actually in the middle of both of those.

If we were all Godless atheists, nobody would care. We oppose it because we want this country to remain the decent and moral city on the hill it always was. Besides, religion and the first amendment shouldn't even have anything to do with it, marriage always was and is something between a man and a woman. "Gay marriage" is an oxymoron.

It's not my Religious belief that opposes gay(queer - fruit - homo) marriages.
It's my Human side that opposes it
Homo sexuality is common animal behavior

Sorry my world doesn't revolve around homosexuals. They live in my world. It is not a homosexual world but a heterosexual world and always will be. Best they keep learning how to adapt and be productive members of society despite their dysfunction.

I don't know. I'm religious (agnostic pagan christian) and I am all for gay marriage (being a lesbian and all). I don't get it either.
