In your own words: Who was Saul Alinsky?

Question

I hear a lot of talk about Alinsky that I didn't hear just a few months ago, and I was wondering:
 
who you think he was, 
what you think he thought, 
and what you think he did.

I want to know what people think, so please don't use wikipedia as that would be missing the point.  If I wanted to know the facts, I would find them myself.

Alinksy was the intellectual revolutionary of his time. He realized that reforms cannot happen without the use of successful tactics designed to crush the status quo

A social reformer who based his teachings on the Marxist/Leninist concepts and incorporated those concepts into his community organizing doctrines as a way to destroy an existing order and change that order to take from the people who have and give to those who do not (redistribution as Obama and his cadre calls it).
