Moon

by Chaim Potok

Summary

The book “Moon” written by Chaim Potok is about a thirteen-year-old boy called Moon Vinten who likes rock music and looks like a rock star. He plays the drums in a rock band.

At some time his parents tell him that there will be a boy from Pakistan. The boy called Ashraf got free of his job in a carpet factory. Ashraf is in the States to tell the pupil what happened to him. He is, like Moon, a big fan of the Beatles and a passionate drummer. He’s tapping everywhere with his fingers on the table.

Any time he asks Moon if he can play his drums, but he wasn’t very good, so he decides to play Moon’s bongos. Moon records the strange music. After Ashraf leaves the house of the Vintens he speaks on the national TV.

But suddenly Ashraf gets killed by a truck. Everyone thinks he was killed by other Pakistani who didn’t want him to speak in public.

Finally the school of Moon makes a memorial service for Ashraf where Moon has to play his drums to the recorded bongo music Ashraf played. Everyone is fascinated by the passion Ashraf’s and Moon’s music has.

Characterization Moon

In the story “Moon” written by Chaim Potok a thirteen-year-old boy called Moon Vinten who likes rock music is the main character, who has blue dyed hair and wears and earring. He plays the drums in a rock band and loves the Beatles.

In the beginning Moon had many conflicts with his parents. The problem is that the generations cannot communicate with one other. Moon would like to have a recording studio, but the parents don’t want to pay for it.

At some time his parents tell him that there will be a boy from Pakistan. The boy called Ashraf got free of his job in a carpet factory. Moon doesn’t welcome Ashraf, because he didn’t want him to come (he didn’t invited himself, the parents did without telling him). He fears that Ashraf finds his secret room (the rehearsal room, where he practices the drums. But when he listened to the life story of Ashraf he feels pity for him. He hesitated when Ashraf asked for playing on his drums, but then he is impressed by the strange music and very happy to meet somebody who has the same interests.

He is a lazy, confident and noisy boy, sometimes a little bit carefree and naughty. Because of his parents he gets angry very quickly. I think in this story he made a very important new experience.

Characterization Ashraf

In the story “Moon” written by Chaim Potok, the pupil Ashraf was a child worker who got free and went to the States for telling the pupil what happened to him. His new American friend Moon noticed that he likes the Beatles and can play Bongos very well.

Moon, who has many problems with communicating with his parents and gets angry in less than no time, likes talking with Ashraf. In the beginning Moon was a little bit suspicious and doesn’t welcome Ashraf (because he didn’t want him to come), but after he had heard the life story of Ashraf (he was a child worker in a carpet factory, sold from his parents), he feels pity for him. Ashraf loves playing Bongos and Moon’s favorite band “The Beatles”. Because of the same interests, they can talking to each other very well.

When Ashraf got killed by a truck, his friend was shocked. This is a sign of a real friendship and sure an important new experience for Moon.

"He is, like Moon, a big fan of the Beatles and a passionate drummer."

This sentence needs to be changed to the following; Like Moon, he is a big fan of the Beatles and a passionate drummer.

"Any time he asks Moon if he can play his drums, but he wasn’t very good, so he decides to play Moon’s bongos."

This sentence needs to be changed to the following; Ashraf was not very good at playing the drums so everytime he asks Moon if he can play them, he decides to play Moon's bongos instead.

"He hesitated when Ashraf asked for playing on his drums".

This part of the sentence should be changed to the following; He hesitated when Ashraf asked to play his drums.

"Ashraf was a child worker who got free"

This part of the sentence should be changed to the following; Ashraf was a child worker who broke free.

"they can talking to each other very well."

The following should be changed; they start talking to each other.

I have taken the liberty of copying your original, and will make the few alterations that could maybe improve it here. I will put the changes in CAPS. What a wonderful day!!! It's just a perfect day for a BOAT TRIP. We are going down the River Thames, AND have just passed Windsor Castle . We SAW the majestic CASTLE standing on the hill and reflected on the water and now we are approaching Hampton Court which was HENRY VII's residence. I see swans swimming, boats going up and down the river and over there in the distance the palace surrounded by wonderful gardens. What a wonderful view. What a pity that I haven't BROUGHT my camera - I could have taken such wonderful pictures. My boat is now entering London port. I hear ships' SIRENS SOUNDING, AND see ships and steamers docking at quays. I watch sailors unloading goods and hear MANY foreign languages spoken. What a noise, what traffic. I could never have thought a port could offer such an interesting spectacle. That's very impressive English for a second language. If you ever need help in the future, feel free to e-mail.

Is the first exclamation marks valid over there? and if you want to forcefully put one over there you can put only one and not 3. 2nd sentence: trip on a boat The spelling of castle is wrong. You have written castel. And Horns don't ring. Bell ring. Horn honk. Its more or less alright. Just try repeat word less. Like in the starting you have you used We many times. It becomes very monotonous. Change the format of the sentence. Don't make it same type in each and every line.

I think it is fine, but just one suggestion. Pupil is a sort of old way of saying student. Other than that it is fine.

    Hope I helped!
