He can use your past pain for your good, His glory and to benefit other people. Take the experience of your hurt - your hang up or habit - start right now in sharing your experiences with other people. No one knows pain like you do and other people need to know how you have successfully dealt with your problems. Believe me you will be a great help to others if you are able to give them the empathic support they are longing for. At the same time you are helping others, you yourself will experience a great healing. You are wonderful in the eyes of God and He is ready to forgive you any and all things you have ever done. His forgiveness is NOT based on You or your works but on the life and death of His Son - Jesus Christ. You don't need to be perfect because Christ has already been perfect in your place.

There's enough pain in life, move on, learn from your mistakes! if you must do some punishment, do a pain and pleasure thing like using a large toy in some cavity that's too small. ;)
