when a person is released from prison he is appointed a probation officer, the person has to report to the probation officer sometimes once a week or once a month, ( what ever the judges tells him to)
the probation officer will make sure the person does what the judge tells him to do. like no alcohol, no drugs.. get a job, no new arrest, If the person fails any of those, his probation officer can report to the judge that the person failed one of the things and can request that the judge puts him back in jail.
