Would you say Sephora is way overpriced, or is it worth it because they actually are skilled and helpful?

I need to go buy a large quantity of makeup (foundations, concealers, powders) but I still have questions. Is Sephora a good idea, or are they too expensive/overpriced? Also take into consideration the amount of skill they have in helping people find what they need or giving you tips.

It isn't overpriced. They just sell it. They dont set the prices. They are great and I love their return policy. You can return anything you used and didn't like for a full refund. so you dont have to be stuck with products that just weren't right. I think their prices are fair. They sell quality makeup which I feel are way better than MAC.

Sephora is not overpriced, specific brands they carry are. There are many brands that Sephora carries that are very affordable and that are at a good price for what you are purchasing.

If this is your first time with makeup, skip Sephora and head over to your local drug store. If you've never used makeup, you need to practice, and buying expensive makeup would be a waste if you end up not liking makeup or certain items.

If you are experienced with makeup, then Sephora is a great place to check out. A lot of their products will last you a long time. There are even brands like The Balm that are comparable to drug store brands price-wise but are still of great quality.

Also, they offer samples and have one of the best return policies. If you buy something you dislike, return it or exchange it, no fuss from them.

I find that their sales associates can be quite helpful. They will not always find you products that you like, but no one is able to always do so. They are, however, great at finding products for you that might work for whatever your needs happen to be. For the most part, these people are skilled with makeup, unlike women that work at MAC (I'm sorry, but everyone that works there is such a cake face). They are also not pushy and will give you your space if you just want to browse on your own. But they are great at giving you recommendations from all of the brands, will generally let you try some of the things out in the store, and will even sometimes give you mini makeovers.

So, if you have the money and are willing to spend it on products that are reasonably priced for what you get, it's worth checking out. Just keep away from 30 dollar mascaras and 70 dollar foundations, and you should be good.

It all depends on the product. Sephora sells so many different brands you cant put a label like that on the whole store. The fact that they do sell so many brands though is great. You get great variety, in both price and quality and you can always find something to suit your needs.

Going from personal experience, I have bought products from sephora that I thought were worse than drug store brand products, but I have also bought products that I absolutely love and swear by.

Do your research and test out products in store. Sephora.com has reviews online now and you can almost always find reviews of what your looking for on makeupalley.com. Reviewers will often tell you what they thought of the cost of each product so you will get an idea if it is just over priced garbage.

Since you said your looking for foundation, concealer and powder Im going to recommend to you the best thing I have EVER bought from Sephora. Get the Bare Minerals get started kit! Its not too expensive. I think mine was $60 (Im in Canada, its cheaper in the states). It comes with 2 foundations so you can find your perfect shade, a bronzer Type powder and a finishing powder called mineral veil. It also comes with a face primer and 3 brushes. The foundation is a foundation/powder in one and when you use it with the concealer brush becomes a concealer.

I have combination skin and sometimes get really bad, red breakouts so I was definitely skeptical about the level of coverage. I mean you think its just a powder right? It covers the nastiest of my breakouts flawlessly. Im definitely impressed. Since buying the kit about 5 months ago Ive bought a replacement foundation and got one of their blushes. I love this makeup and would never go back to my old cover girl mousse foundation and mac powder combination.

As for asking people in store, I find it helps if you do a bit of research on what your buying first. Like I said go online, read reviews, compare prices and ingredients there that way when you are in store you will know what questions to ask and the associate will be able to help you find and try the right product better.

The great thing about Sephora is if you decide to buy a product and after trying it out decide its not right for you, you can return it.

I hope this helped! Good luck :)

Okay, here`s the deal: The products are high end and very expensive, but the people at Sephora go out of their way to help you which is very nice. My sister has moderate acne and they helped her to find her dream foundation. This stuff is amazing! It`s called Cargo. The lady told us that the actresses on Desperate Housewives wear it and swear by it. For concealer go with Erase Paste by Benefit. Everyone loves this and it`s been a Sephora favorite for a long time with customers. With powder go with Laura Geller Balance and Brighten. Again, all of these products are pricey, but they are worth it because they are the best of the best! Hope I helped! BTW, it`s okay to splurge on skin stuff, but just don`t go crazy in there because you`ll be so broke so fast, that your head will spin if you make it a regular habit, LOL!

To me, Sephora is like a drugstore brand when compared to Kat Von D, Makeup Forever, MAC, Chanel, Bobbi Brown, Benifit, Urban Decay, and a lot more. I'd say it's reasonably decent, and some products are worth getting. But some other products like the eyeshadow primer base is a total waste!

Sephora isn't overpriced, it's the brands that sets the price. They sell Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Kat Von D.

Those brands are expensive, Sephora doesn't get to control their prices. But i'm not gonna lie, some of the brands that Sephora sells has really really really good make up.

The best I have found in makeup is Pur Minerals which can be found at Sephora & Ulta. Both that it for the same price. Dillards use to carry it but now only Dillards in BIg cities do same price there too.
