Why is it safer to save an unencrypted password in a cookie than it is to use the Firefox password manager?

It is not a Firefox restriction. It is code in the web page that doesn't allow it. BTW: The password is not in the cookie. It only has an expiration date.

Many sites add code that cause the password to not be saved. I have a bookmarklet, which is a short piece of Javascript, that will remove that restriction. At the sign in screen you first click on the bookmarklet, then enter the password, and at the end you will be prompted to save. Once done it should not be needed again for that site.
