While researching your families genealogy...have you found that you have a "famous ancestor"?

Saint Ciaran (Kieran) the Younger, founder of the Irish monastery Clonmacnoise and one of the 12 apostles of Ireland.

My dad is an amateur genealogist and managed to trace our roots back to 1697 Ireland. When he finally had the chance to visit with some ancestors over there, they filled him in on our additional history going back to about 516 A.D. Ciaran and his family are my earliest known ancestors.

Interestingly, I have a modernized spelling of his last name: MacAnTsaoir, which means "son of the carpenter."

Yes, but it doesn't mean much, unless it is a very recent ancestor. There are millions of descendants of Niall of the Nine Hostages, or many of the kings of England, or Genghis Khan.

I guess I'm the third answer that says charlemagne is one of my ancestors.

I've gone back further... but you will eventually reach a point where it's all myth.

Yep. Henry VIII. Not kidding. His illegitimate son is one of my great grandfathers, way back there.

i'm a descendant of george and jacob donner, the german immigrants who traveled through the sierra mountains and got lost, jacob donner is my great, great, great, great grandfather on my dad's side, my dad's mother's maiden name was donner, george donner is my great, great, great, great grandpa's brother.
