Weekend Itinerary in Perth?

I will be spending a couple of free days in WA after a business meeting in Perth. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to spend a couple of days? I don't particularly want to stay in Perth or Fremantle, and have already had a look at the south west. I was thinking of going inland to Wave Rock area. Is there anything to see on the way, or is it just wheat fields? What about heading north along the coast?

I am thinking a maximum of about 4 hours driving.

I've always felt wave rock is a little overrated, but the wildflowers are out and most people think they are spectacular.

Have you gone to the Swan Valley, approx 40 min from Central Perth.

This is our wine/cheese area with lots of different places to stop and try things. It is also a very historical town and area, with very early colonization. They have a great golf course and accommodation called The Vines.

New Norcia, approx 1 hour away

An Original religious settlement, very unusual and interesting place to visit situated in the original and privately owned town.

You could spend go to cervantes via New Norcia if you liked, from perth to new norcia, through Moora to Badgingarra, then cut to the coast to Cervantes.

Cervantes is up North, approx 2 hours (direct), on the way stop and see the Pinnacles

and stop and visit Lancelin, (on the way back) and Yanchep National Park, if your interested

I think a drive inland towards Wave rock is a good idea. There is nothing much in particular to see along the road but it is a nice country area and gets a bit of outback feel once you get further inland. The Wave Rock itself is not reached by sealed roads, and it can be a bit tricky to find as there are virtually no signs once you've left the sealed road.

If you wanted to drive north, i would go to Nambung national Park, i really liked the pinnacles there, surreal desert landscape, i actually liked Nambung better than the Wave Rock.

I wouldn't go North. the really good areas are to far away . How about margaret river driving the coastal route then drive back through the inland forest areas. or take the ferry to rotnest Island
