A question to all people living in Dublin...?

A couple of weeks ago spent a week in Dublin, and I must say I was shocked about the price of virtually anything. Whether restaurant meals, food from supermarkets or a night out somewhere, it really made no difference - everything was excessively expensive. I always thought London or Rome were expensive but Dublin actually hit the top. How can you people actually live there? I was close to broke after a week.

Yes. You need a lot of money to visit and live in Dublin.

We have actually made it onto the list of the world's most expensive cities.

You should try taking out a mortgage here. It is crippling.

Like wise the cost of cars is crazy as is alcohol, tobacco, clothes, electrical goods.

Renting any type of accommodation is very pricey too, a lot of visitors don't realise this and come unprepared.

To exist here you really need to have husband and wife bringing home a decent income.

But, apart from all that :-) I hope you had a nice stay.

Prices in dublin woudl be more expensive than the rest of ireland you also need to consider that the standard of living and salaries here are higher than us and most of our european conterparts. that said it can be very dear but avoiding touristy areas you can get great deals on food more so than teh rest of the country due to the level of competition the tip for eating in drinking in irelkand go where the locals good gauranteed good value then X

The minimum wage here is almost €9 ($13.20) an hour. I hear in America it's as low as $5 in many states (and it's like $3 in some places)

Yes, it's horrifically expensive and the rest of Ireland isn't much better. Having said that, our wages are higher than those of most of our European counterparts.

Hope you had a nice stay anyway :-)
