I'm 14 and moving to Germany, What should i expect?
I'm 14 and i currently live in Uganda(Africa). I'm half German half Kenyan so i'm brown. I go to an international school here which is mostly british but we do things a bit different here compared to places like America and Europe. I've been to Germany every summer from 2007 and now my dad wants me to move there to live with my step mother. I can't speak much german and i really don't know what to expect!
- will i have any friends at school??
- how does school work?? (do you get exercise and text books at school, does the teacher talk and the students take notes)
-do i do german as a second language at school? or as a first language like everybody else?
-will people be racist because i am half african??
-do i get special lessons to learn german?
-do i need a lot of clothes for school? (here we wear a uniform)
-is there anything out of the ordinary i should expect?
Btw i had gone to a camp over summer, and the experience wasn't too good i only had one friend .. practically because she was the only person who spoke english! otherwise everybody else spoke to me once in a while because i couldn't speak much german and they couldn't speak much english!

Please forgive the first answerer, she is a well known troll for being rude and ignorant. Just ignore her.
If you have been to Germany every summer than it is an advantage cause it means you have an idea of what to expect.
If you are going to an International School then the classes will be in English and will teach German.
At an International School you'll find people from all different nationalities and skin colors so don't be worried. You won't stand out
Give it a try, the worst that can happen is that you don't like it and then want to return to your dad.
Wishing you a nice time

Speaking as a father or mother - we see matters in yet another point of view than the normal youngster. But I recognize what you imply - I consider feeling confused at that age. It's a time while the whole thing is exchanging, and you are immediately in new occasions and stipulations that you simply certainly not noticed earlier than, and you are now not certain easy methods to manage a brand new tradition, new institution, new men and women, new meals. So this is my recommendations: first - hold in brain that this too, shall cross. It would possibly look like ceaselessly, however you are going to adapt, you are going to think extra secure day-to-day, and matters gets larger. Keep a magazine for those who like, and after a couple of months, return and seem at belongings you wrote again while. This will supply you a few point of view. Second, speak for your dad and mom. Tell them you're operating tough, and also you do wish to get well grades. Ask them to go into reverse at the strain just a little, so as to have rather less pressure to your lifestyles. If you feel your dad and mom gets disenchanted approximately this, then attempt to speak to them in a public location, like in a restaurant or in a crowded browsing mall. That would possibly sound like an peculiar location to try this, but it surely maintains men and women from getting too excited and elevating their voices. Finally - attempt to construct a few unfastened time to your agenda, wherein you'll do exactly not anything. Go for a stroll with peers, journey your motorcycle, pastime, watch TV, or paintings on a passion. Exercise is VERY well at lowering pressure, and the wellness advantages are fine, too. You do not ought to construct tremendous muscle tissues, simply burn off a few further vigor. Hang in there, and well success!

Racism and its stupidity is everywhere. Most modern day people such as yourself have many different nationalities from past generations. You cannot help what you are.
As for being a teen and going to a country that is modern and industrious and pre dominantly caucasian I figure you might encounter some racist remarks since you have Kenyan blood. I live in America and consider Germany a very small America in modern terms.
I hope that I am wrong and that you do not experience any problems over past taught stupidity and learned behavior that is past down from generation to generation. You sound like a smart and jovial person who deserves fair treatment but like I said at your age kids can be harsh at times.
Like aeiou_i said avoid those knuckleheads with skinheads who are only tough in groups and do love to learn to eat sausages with cabbage that is soaked in vinegar.

You'll eat plenty of sausages, drink loads of beer and avoid bald headed groups of more than two.
