Is it possible to self-induce hallucinations?

I've heard during meditation, Buddhists are able to generate psychedelic like properties. Anyone have personal experiences with this?

Update:

I should probably elaborate: without the use of drugs.

Basically, anything that induces a Theta wave response in the brain can create an altered state. Typical ways to induce Theta wave are Drumming or dancing to a certain beat. Check out Binaural Beats. Link Below.

I typically induce altered states by listening to TOOL very loud or with Stereo headphones. They use Binaural Beats in their songs - They know what they are doing. Try Lupin Conguring/Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned. Works for me!

Try this and you will start seeing things, trust me...You will need a large mirror or use a bathroom with a large mirror in it already and a chair high enough to see in to it clearly.

    1. Totally black out all sources of light in a room completely and make sure it really is totally dark. Small bathrooms or rooms without windows work best for this.

    2. Simply sit in the chair in front of the mirror and look in to it.

    3. Stay there for as long as you can bare, at least an hour or two - if not more.

You will start seeing things without the aid of any drugs. You can also try this by taking a long candle in to the room with you and stare in to the flame/mirror. Your brain will naturally start trying to fill in the blanks of missing infomation (simply put)

Yes. Although since you know what sleep paralysis is, that's the thing that most limits the terrifying feeling, you can just remind yourself that this kind of thing only happens when you're sleeping and it's not real. If you have sleep paralysis often, though, you should get tested for narcolepsy. That is dangerous, like if you're driving or any number of other things. These things are thought to increase the chances of sleep paralysis: sleeping on your back, stress, excessive drinking before going to sleep combined with not having enough sleep, lucid dreaming, sudden lifestyle changes (like moving). If it's because of lucid dreaming, though, then it will be easier to remind yourself that you're just dreaming.

Yes its just a type of energy frequency the same as every other thing is. Once visited it can be recreated without the initial trigger. It sometimes happens with people who take lsd when they have so called 'flash backs'.

It is just a question of recognizing the frequency signature.

Our brains already carry psychotropic chemicals, we merely have to access them through ritual, chanting, drum rhythms, dancing, sweat baths, tree hugging, astral travelling, chakra work, or peaceful meditation in silence. The brain is a powerful tool that we need to learn how to use better.
