How about a god gene?

Some people talk of intelligent design. I think that they have it the wrong way round. There is an intelligence to the universe, but up until very recently it has acted unconsciously. Now it is crystallising and becoming conscious - the human brain is the universe becoming self aware.

What gets in the way is the ego, which is the illusion of existing separate from reality. A healthy spirituality guides people to explore the psyche with meditation, music, celebration. Unhealthy, irrational religion tries to block this - but is losing ground rapidly.

I am not sure how this ties in with genetics. The possibility of waking up and becoming more concious is obviously there in the genes - how this may have arisen as a result of natural selection I do not know. In the next century or so we are going to consciously take over the management of our DNA.. Natural selection may have got us this far, but we are about to leave it behind.

Not a "god" gene, but rather a "believer" gene.

Human society is very complex and new members need to learn the rules as fast as possible. Rules are usually learnt from elder members.

So, individuals with a natural tendency to "believe what they are told", have a better integration in normal complex societies than more "rebel" ones. They create less problems.

Societies are built from memes. Memes are small pieces of information that, in some way, "infect" your brain.

Many social consensus are, in fact, memes. Some examples: Why boys wear trousers and girls skirts? Why poligamy is accepted at some societies whereas at others is forbidden?

But people fond on believing everything they are told without questioning can also become fanatics easily.

They lack the ability to think critically and don't question things. Just believe things because they have been told or read them at some "holy" book.

Dangerous or, simply, fake memes have a great opportunity to propagate in such environments.

IN reference to a god gene, how about a triple strand of Dna or even quadruple strand in the intelligence that made that appear in space. And with the development in us of what is in it, why not vertical pupils signifying-- as in a snake-- the presence of a toxin (purity and wisdom), a more ethereal body that would pass through suffering and pain like it was warm milk and generate light, and a strong morphogenetic field that would hold us all together as one homogenous consciousness yet holy and purely differentiated. A god gene that expresses religion; I could go for that I think if the religion was truth.

We all have it. The search for the Holy Grail is the search for the realization and subsequent integration of this truth within our own life. This is what Consciousness will awaken to very soon.

Is possible, but it could be a 'spirituality gene' - ie many ppl have the same feeling, but they assign it to different reasons.

I know what spiritual euphoria feels like, but I don't put it down to god. I put it down to being human.

God gene, no. God complex, evangelicals, doctors, lawyers, politicians.

It's not genetic, it's spiritual. But yes, some have it and some don't.
