In regards to Colossians 2:16, the whole verse taken in context with the Bible, book, chapter and location of Colossi is quite simple. Paul wrote it to encourage the gentile converts at Colossi to keep doing the things he taught them (Sabbaths , New Moons, Festivals) in the face of severe pressure from the folks that they used to associate with. The society around them was pagan.

The new moon marks the beginning of months, its called God's calendar , The full moon is the 15 ( middle of the month on God's calendar ) By the Jews keeping track of time , using God's calendar, we know what days to keep His feast.

For instance Passover always begins on the 15th day of month of Nissan. Which is the first month of God's calendar, not January the traditions of men, but spring time around the middle of April is the beginning of months.

The new moons then Col. 2:16 were marking the beginning of months;

and Paul was telling the Colossians to ignore these heretics' judgments and criticisms about their enjoyment of the eating and drinking aspects of God's festivals.

The heretics condemned the Colossian church for the manner in which the Colossians observed the Holy Days. Notice that they didn't challenge the days themselves. It was the physical enjoyment of them—rejoicing and feasting—that provoked the objections of these false teachers.

Notice Paul's words again: "So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding [Greek meros, meaning 'part,' or 'regarding any portion of'] a festival or a new moon or sabbath"

The Christians in Colossae obeyed God. They kept His Sabbath and Holy Days, and they rejoiced on them, following biblical instruction (Deuteronomy 16:10-11, 13-14).

        Firstly, other than the Feast of Trumpets (the first day of the seventh month of God's Year), God never commanded that every New Moon was to be a Feast or a celebration (see Lev. 23 for the set times of God). The monthly observance was a tradition of the Children of Israel. Of course, not all traditions of men are necessarily bad traditions -- only insomuch as they replace or do away with the things which God has explicitly commanded. This tradition, though, took on the aspect of a monthly sabbath rest. I think this is going too far.

        So, for myself, as a keeper of the Feasts of God (rather than the Beast's Days of Christmas, Easter, etc.), I see it more as a time for just an evening worship service as a special thanks to God for another month. New moon means a new beginning with light in the darkness.

According with the next verse, it is a shadow of the things to come, and the body is of Christ. Christ is the reality of the gospel.

A new moon is monthly.

Thus, we monthly experince a new beginning in Christ.
