Do I need a chuck for my drill?

I bought a Makita 10.8 V Ultra-Compact cordless drill. It has a 1/4" hex shank. How do I put drill bits in it? Do I need to buy a separate chuck?

You can buy a separate chuck for that purpose. I own a milwaukee in the same setup. although with the chuck, its not as good as a real drill. but it will work

No you should never need a spare chuck they last for years, they only fail if badly abused. You can buy drill bits on a hex shank just as you can screwdriver bits and they are great because you do not need to keep resetting the chuck so much. Screwfix or similar tool suppliers sell them

From the looks of the photo I found. It is a chuck-less drill. Meaning you rotate the lock yourself to put in the drill bit. There is no key like older drills have. I would imagine there are instructions with it.

sounds like the new impact. you can get bits with 1/4 inch shanks or add a chuck.they make a 1/4 " shank chuck/ not real cheap.
