Have you rushed into getting married and could you have been talked out of it?

My brother in law has been with a girl for only a few months now and wants to propose.  I am not saying he shouldn't marry her but my husband and I feel that it is just very rushed and don't see why he shouldn't wait just a bit longer before making such a big decision.

Have you or anyone you know rushed into a marriage - and would there have been anything someone else could have said to help you slow down and think more logically about the situation?

Don't get me wrong - I want them to be happy and if that means them getting married then all the best for them - it just feels very rushed and because of the rush the odds are certainly not in their favour....

Yeah he is rushing it, but it is his life. People do things spontaneously, and it is his choice to do that. He is going to propose whether you think it is right or not. Maybe they really are in love, and are ready for it! Who knows!

My wife proposed to me after 5 weeks of dating. Our friends talked us into getting married 2 days later. We'll be celebrating our 43rd anniv this fall. We were both 25 yrs old, and "just knew" after the 2nd date. We had our ceremony on a Chicago beach as the sun rose over Lake Michigan, with our friends, flowers, and a jug of Ripple wine (it was 1966).

I think that if he loves her nothing you or anyone else can say will change his mind, we all have to make our own mistakes
