What is the significance of the Mercy Seat in Christianity?
I know it is the lid on the top of the Ark of the Covenant; but does it have any significance in Christianity?

The Mercy Seat was where God met with man.
"And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the Mercy Seat..." *** Exodus 25:22a
God met with the High Priest once a year, on the day of Atonement. At this time, the High Priest would go into the Holy of Holies with blood to atone for all the sins of Israel.

First, it's important to know that the entire Ark itself is a symbolic representation of the Messiah.
But as for the Mercy Seat: it was a place of propitiation when the sacrificial blood was sprinkled on it once a year on the Day of Atonement. The Mercy Seat was a symbolic "type" of the Throne of God, and was transformed from a throne of judgement to a throne of God's forgiveness when it was sprinkled with the atoning blood. Today, sinners have a mercy seat in the blood-sprinkled body of Yeshua (Jesus), who died on the cross as an atonement for our sins.
