My car transmission works well most of the time, except sometimes it has problem, Can anyone tell me why?

Update:

I have dodge caravan 1997 automatic. When the problem occurs the gears does not move from, first to second and from second to third and so on.

    i ,am going to have to guess here since you did,nt say what kind of car you have. it might be low on fluid or the transmission filter is clogging up.

    Need more info like year make and model. what kind of automatic? What is the problem when it has it?

    transmissions rely heavily on fluid pressure, i would check tranny fluid first....(automatic)
