Where can I get married in Edinburgh?

Question

We are a German couple and would like to get married in Edinburgh.
It should only be a civil ceremony (just us and 2 witnesses) as we are having a big church wedding in Germany later. Problem: We would like getting married at General Register House, but we don´t know how the rooms where the ceremony takes place look like. We would like to have a nice room even if we are only 4 people. But I couldn´t find any pictures or information about that on the internet. Do you know the premises? Any other advice on nice, affordable hotels or restaurants for afterwards? Any experience? We are planning for August, so last question: Does it matter if the Theatre Festival takes place regarding to prices etc. ?Thanks for your help!

"Perhaps your greatest difficulty when planning a visit to Edinburgh in August, and almost certainly your greatest expense, will be your accommodation. Prices for virtually all kinds of lodgings soar during the summer, and get booked up months in advance. In addition to the various types of accommodation detailed in our Hotels section, a number of flats, apartments and houses come on to the market in August for short-term lets, their owners having escaped the madness of the festivals and gone on a holiday of their own. The Fringe website (www.edfringe.com) has a message board on which offers of accommodation are posted".
I will have to leave it to others re hotels and restaurants.

The registry office is beautiful inside. There are some pictures on the photography site linked below.
Do you know that in Scotland you don't have to get married at the registry office? If you go to the GRO-Scotland website you can find a list of other places in Edinburgh which are licenced to hold a civil service.

As a watchout, please check at the Standesamt in your local city for which documents you need to take to Scotland- you may need documentation to prove that you are not already married in Germany.

The Marriage (Scotland) Act 2002 :-

permits civil marriages to be solemnised at locations other than registration offices; 

authorises local councils to approve locations for that purpose and to charge fees to meet related costs and for connected purposes; and

enables the Registrar General for Scotland to give guidance on the above to local councils.
