First of all canker sores are not contagious and the increase of their sizes indicates that it will disappear in a shorter time. Another thing is that there is no cure for canker sores it will just come and go. The disease is suspected to result from a reaction of the immune system and many other factors like stress, bacterial infection, hereditary etc.

If your cankers were caused by eating acidic food, I don't have an answer for you. But if they're due to stress, being over-tired or sick, or having something painful in the mouth like a dental procedure, there's a product called Canker Sores Begone, which I use and have turned many of my friends on to. My cankers are gone in about a day and a half, a friend says hers heal in about 3 days, yet another person I know claims they're gone the first day she applies it. I guess everyone's different, but the point is, it works really, really fast. Its also made from herbs which I like, and you just apply a dab of it to your canker several times a day. Orabase and OraGel are mostly to help with the pain, and (in my opinion) don't do a lot to get rid of canker sores. I like to use an anti-bacterial mouthwash like Listerine to help get rid of them. If it hurts to swish, try not to do it so forcefully, or even just hold the mouthwash in your mouth for a while without swishing it around. Also if you able to, you should avoid using toothpaste that contains sodium lauryl sulfate, or SLS. I find that I get fewer canker sores when I am eating right and staying generally healthy.

Canker sores are not contagious, thank God. It's a genetic thing. I used to get them as a kid, and I do not envy you.

Anyway, as far as products go, I can only tell you NOT to get the patches that go over the sore. They did not work at all. The product I usually use for my sores is Kanka.

I know you said it's painful, but warm saltwater IS good for that.

You can try swishing hydrogen peroxide around in your mouth, but DO NOT SWALLOW it.

If all else fails go see a doctor - they may not even be canker sores.
