What do you think about NOT vaccinating your children at all?

I know someone who has kids who has not had them vaccinated in any way shape or form. I am scared that her kids will catch something because there are so many diseases.

Should we try to give her a hint or let her choose?

I realize that it is a parent's choice whether or not to have their child vaccinated, but in my opinion, any parent that refuses to have their child vaccinated is being irresponsible. There is no proof that vaccines cause autism. Why not vaccinate against diseases that could be fatal? In my opinion the only valid reason to not have children vaccinated is a known allergy to an ingredient in the vaccine.

Talk (calmly) with the parents about your concerns. Don't just "give her a hint". Unfortunately, though, once someone decides not to have their child vaccinated, it may not be possible to change their mind.

Ask this woman if she has considered to vaccinate and listen to her reasons of why she may not be doing it. Some religions do not allow vaccinations and some people are worried about autism and other rare illnesses caused by vaccinations (it has never been proven that vaccinating causes these complications) if these are her reasons you may not be able to covince her otherwise. If she is not vaccinating because she cannot afford it there are free vaccination clinics all over the US, offer her help finding one for her children and herself if she needs any updates. It is worth asking so that you may help her if she is willing. If not you tried and it is her own business after the conversation.

I work at children's hospital and what many ppl do not realize is that because of the trend of not vaccinating many diseases like measles are coming back. We recently had a few outbreaks and had to take major precautions because of the high number of children exposed. Thankfully most were vaccinated. People claim that they had these diseases and are still alive but think of the many who are not. Also does anyone remember polio? How awful and crippling a disease it was. I do not think less of people who do not vaccinate (my own mother did not vaccinate us after a certain age and I went as an adult to get updated. Thank God I did because I have been exposed to many things such as hep b working in healthcare) but it is very important to protect your children from getting a needless disease.

Also for the post that said you HAVE to be vaccinated to attend school or live in dorms you are by law given the right to refuse vaccinations. You can do all these things without being vaccinated if you simply sign a waiver.

Again for Josephine- you can sign a waiver even in states that mandate vaccinations. NO ONE can force students to get vaccinated to live on campus. You can sign a waiver and still live in the dorms if you are not vaccinated.

Here is a link for proof.

Let her know that it's going to cause them problems later on. Even if they don't catch anything, most schools require their students to be vaccinated against several diseases unless they are prone to severe reactions from the vaccines.

Today I had to go and get a TB test and a Tetanus shot from the health department before I head off to college in the fall. I also had to have a series of Hep B shots, a Meningitis vaccine, and the MMR shots (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella).

The MMR vaccines I was required to have before Kindergarten.

All the vaccines, except for the Tetanus booster and the TB test (which were still reccomended), were required by my college, and I'm not permitted to live in the dorms without them.

/edit/ Maybe you can refuse the vaccines in K-12, but my enrollment forms for college specifically state that I'm not allowed to be housed in the dorms without them. I can still attend school, but it's either live in the dorms and get them or commute 2 hours back and forth every day and don't get them. Just something to consider.

Someone I know did that and I am continuously in awe at how they are not sick. My choice would be to vaccinate.

Show her this picture...this is what one of her children could end up like because she has listened to a bunch of ignorant people who have no clue of the suffering that vaccines have prevented.

edit: for those who gave me a thumbs down...shame on you. I only hope that your children do not pay the price of your ignorance.

it's none of your business actually.

do you know these children's health backgrounds? there may be health issues the parents know about, but you don't.

take care of your own family.

parents are called parents for a reason.
