did i kill my cordless phone battery?
since yesterday my cordless phone will not keep a charge for more than 5 minutes. my husband says it's because i would often forget to put the phone on the charger at night and running the battery down too low. he would usually try and keep the phone on the base all the time when not in use. i did some searching and saw some articles about how keeping the phone on the base will slowly kill the battery (nickel batteries to be more specific). now i'm wondering. which did more damage, not charging the phone enough or charging it too much?

Nickel cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries have a 'memory' which means if you don't drain the batteries completely, they will only store up to the percentage you charged them (you use 5% of the battery then charge, only about 5% of the battery will be discharged next time before the battery dies). Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) batteries have a similar problem, but not as severe, charging them too early reduces their life a small amount each time.
Although you can buy a new battery and the phone will be pretty much like new, battery wise, it is best to buy a new phone, this time with lithium based batteries as these don't have any kind of memory so you can charge them as little or as much as you like

I have had my cordless phone for the last 3 years. A couple of months ago my phone was doing the same thing...I would charge it for hours but only get like 5 minutes of talk time (if even that) I was gonna buy a new phone. But I decided to try a new battery instead. Come to find out. That was the problem. I paid like 7 bucks for a battery.

Just buy a new battery...It is a common problem with cordless phones, whether you charge them a lot or not enough. And yes, NiCad batteries develop a 'memory' so should be charged fully when first used especially.. Try to find a replacement that is Lithium Ion, or Nickel Metal Hydride....(No memory problems!)

It could go either way, but can you remove your batteries? You can go to a local consumer electronics store (Best Buy, Radio Shack) or to Target, Walmart, etc. and purchase generic batteries.
Alternatively, you can go to Radio Shack or Best Buy to purchase a battery-enabled booster pack to get your cordless phone up and
running should you forget to charge your batteries. I had the same
problem. Go to the store where you purchased it, and if it still within
the warranty range, they just might be able to swap the battery out and give you a new one.
OR, read this from consumers about your phone:
