Can i move an unpackaged Sims 2 neighbourhood to a new PC?
I haven't played the Sims 2 for a really long time, i backed it up after i got bored of it then my home PC died. I now have a laptop and was given a few expansion packs by a friend who bought Sims 3 last week, because i've been chatting about putting it back onto my PC for a while.
Basically i want to use my old neighbourhood and families on my new PC, but the files were backed up, not packaged and because of the new expansion packs i can't just replace the files. So how will i get it to work?
If anyone has the same issue do not overwrite all the files. I didn't do it, I think if you did it would screw your game up, after all you are deleting half of what you've added!
Just access them in your documents folder, go to neighbourhoods, my custom neighbourhood was the one ending in 004, but yours may be different depending on how many custom ones you had, or if you were playing a pre-assigned one. then just copy it and paste it into your new folder, into the neighourhoods file. Everything should be there. It glitched up a little, like my 'elders' with 5 children forgot they had ever woowooed, lol, but other than that everything i wanted to play was there :)
I really don't recommend the answer I got here so i won't vote it as best (sorry, but thank you!) and i think i would have got major issues if i had done that. If you want to try it back up those files first, and of course, feedback! ^.^
Happy sim-ing!

Install Sims2 on your new computer. As a minimum, you must install all the expansions that you had before in order for your saved games to work. If you have new expansions that you never played with before, that's okay.
Now just take the folder you backed up, and place them on top of the new folders with the same name and location in the computer.
Example:
Take the folder My Documents / EA Games / Sims2 from your old computer and save over the folder
My Documents / EA Games / Sims2 on the new computer
It really doesn't matter that you didn't package the neighborhoods.
