Where can I find an editor, that will help me clean up my writing before sending it to a publisher?
Hi everyone,
I have done some writing and am actually under the delusion that it might be good.
So I have decided to do the big step and send it to a publisher.
Does anyone know where I could get an editor to help me clean up my story before sending it in? And how much they may cost?
Thanks for all advice.

Hello.
Having done some writing in the past, the best way for you to clean up your writing is to do a re-write.I would respectfully suggest you leave your work for a few day and then re-read it.You should then, paragraph by paragraph, check for spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, punctuation problems and accuracy of your written word.
I would further suggest you read the best source on the subject the link for which is below. This website will have everything you've ever wanted to know about writing, publishing etc and will be well worth your time reading.

I do wish you well in your endeavours!

Unless you go to self publishing, it usually only costs a LOT of disappointment, postage, and the amount of paper you have to print out. If you do self-publishing, make sure the publishers you use have good, established credentials.
Otherwise, what you want to do is send in a query letter to a literary agent. Agents help edit your paper (or assign editors), and when they finally pronounce it fit for publishing, send it in to the big boys. You can find how to write a query letter online if you just google it, but basically you want to sum up your entire book the best way you can in about three, intriguing lines.
To find a company to send letters into, you can google it, OR, you can purchase specifically a copy of the Writer's Market 2009. I have the one from 2007 and it still will work perfectly fine. You can also find them in the reference section of your local library. These books have lists and lists and lists of publishing companies in specific genres, age groups, etc.
Also, set yourself up for a lot of disappointment unless you are the best author this world has seen. Many mainstream authors had to go through dozens of rejection letters before they got their lucky break. Who knows? You may be one of the better ones. But if you are rejected, don't take that as your book is bad. Just keep sending in query letters and DON'T GIVE UP. That's the best advice I can give you.
I also have a lot of books on the subject. You might want to look into something like that if you're really interested. Autobiographies are also good sources, if they're about the author's writing life.

Michael Garrett. Stephen Kings first editor. He's as bout as inexpensive as you'll find on the market.
Also, http://www.xlibris.com/ offers copy editing for around the same price.
Depending on your manuscript and how many words you have, your edit will range from $900-2000.
if your willing to pay more for your edit, Laurie Rosin is your BEST BET!!!! If she likes your work she'll refer you, doesnt get better than that!
Good luck!
