    = 100%([18 - 6]/6)

    = 100%(12/6)

    = 100%(2)

    = 200%

Answer: That's how it is computed above.

    With the other numbers:

    6 to 9:

    = 100%([9 - 6]/6)

    = 100%(3/6)

    = 50%

    9 to 12:

    = 100%([12 - 9]/6)

    = 100%(3/6)

    = 50%

    12 to 16:

    = 100%([16 - 12]/6)

    = 100%(4/6 or 2/3)

    = 66 2/3%

    16 to 18:

    = 100%([18 - 16]/6)

    = 100%(2/6 or 1/3)

    = 33 1/3%

Sum of all increase where the base is 6:

    = 50% + 50% + 66 2/3% + 33 1/3%

    = 200%

That's it! Your basis of increase from 6 to 18 is 6; the basis of computing percentage of increases from number to number must therefore be 6 also, else you're lost in what you want to determine or probe.

    morning Goldfish

the reason its failing is because the 200% is got from the 6

But as you work out the individual parts you are working from the next number each time.

    6 to 9 = 50%

    9 to 12 = 33%

    12 to 15 = 25%

    15 to 18 = 20%

the % are getting smaller describing a curve

so you are doing 2 different sums

This is just the same as if something has a 50% discount and the stor gives you an extra 10% off you don't get a total of 60% off, you only get 55% off

    tv for £100

    50% off = tv for £50

    extra 10% off = tv for £45

It's just a fact of like because percentages are proportions
