Has anyone tanned while pregnant?
I just found out I am 4 weeks pregnant. I have been tanning in a bed for about a month now. Will this hurt the baby? Has any of you ladies tanned while pregnant? Was your child okay?

I've tanned a couple times while pregnant and my baby is perfectly healthy. when researching I found the biggest concerns where lying on your back too long, which is only a problem sometime through the second trimester, and overheating. As long as you didn't get too hot and weren't in the too long at one time, you should be fine.

The UV rays pose no risk. They are UV rays not x-rays. If you heed the advice of some of the posters above me you can't go outside either because your baby will get skin cancer, lol (that is the dumbest thing I think I have ever heard) The rays from a tanning bed CANNOT get to your baby. The reason that you shouldn't tan while pregnant (and why most salons won't allow you) is because is raises the temperature of your amniotic fluid and it can slow down the development of the Babbie's spine. If you tan in a cool room with a fan it poses no more risk than tanning when you are not pregnant.

i tanned in the bed few times without knowing i was pregnant. i have stopped going in the bed,but i tan outdoors almost everyother day. They say its not the sun that will harm the baby, its how hot you get. So if you get extremely hot dont go. I go inside to a/c every ten to 15 minutes to completely cool down then go back out after a while. just listen to your body. if you are too hot. stop.

It shouldn't have hurt the baby at this point, but I would definitely advise stopping now. At my first appointment, my doctor told me tanning is a bad idea, as it heats up your core body temperature. Your baby's is always 1 degree more than yours and they can't regulate it like we can, so it can cause them to overheat and have birth defects. I think it's safe to say your baby will be fine as long as you stop tanning now.

the reason that they don't want you tanning is because the heat can heat your amniotic fluid and it could be dangerous to the baby. The doctors say to avoid extremes while pregnant because it can throw off your homeostasis. You should be fine. I just wouldn't tan anymore tho until your baby is born! GOOD LUCK HUN!!! congrats on ur pregnancy!!!

I haven't tanned while pregnant, but I was reading over the booklet of general information my ob gave me during my first appointment & learned something interesting. It said that tanning doesn't affect your pregnancy. It said of course that tanning is dangerous for your skin, but it said that it doesn't harm the baby. I'd quit now if I were you just to be careful, but according to at least one doctor, there aren't negative effects on your baby from tanning.

I've never done it and i know that you're definetly not suppose to because it causes your body to overheat, creating an unsafe enviroment for the fetus. However, that being said, if you did it while you didn't know you were pregnant, and now that you know, you intend on not doing it anymore, your baby will be perfectly fine. A lot of women do all sorts of things while they're unaware that they're pregnant, and then stop when they find out. For example, drink, diet...etc. You'll be fine. I promise! CONGRATS!

To much radiation its not very smart to lay in a tanning bed while pregnant.
